Introducing Media Mentors

Adriana Lacy

Journalism Internships is expanding with a mentorship program aimed at helping college students and early-career media professionals build networks and get feedback from those established in the media industry.

Media Mentors is a mentoring program from journalism-internships.com, a website dedicated to fostering the next generation of media leaders. The mentors, from organizations including the Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, ESPN, CNN and more, have volunteered to offer free, half-hour one-on-one sessions for advice, guidance or general questions about navigating the media industry.

Mentor categories include audio and radio, data/investigative journalism, audience engagement, general reporters and editors, sports, broadcast, news design, photo/video, public relations, marketing, product, and engineering.

The program is run by me, Adriana, the founder of journalism-internships.com and an audience engagement editor at the Los Angeles Times along with Caitlin Ostroff, who works at the Wall Street Journal (Read more about us).

Both of us are early-career journalists and were heavily involved in student media in college and are passionate about making this industry more accessible.

Caitlin and I benefited greatly from the mentorship and exposure to different forms of journalism we received from others as college students, and we’re excited you want to give the same opportunity to others.

Be sure to read our FAQs about the program and then sign up for a session or share with someone who could benefit from this program.

About Journalism Internships:

Journalism is vital to our democracy.

Making it accessible to enter the industry should be, too.

Journalism Internships seeks to help equip the next generation of media leaders.

Through paid internship, fellowship and entry-level job listings, mentoring and advice, we hope that the future generation of media leaders will have opportunities to make their mark on this industry, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status.

But we can’t do this alone. Consider donating to support this work, volunteering as a mentor, submitting an industry tip or sharing the work of Journalism Internships.
